Real Ales For The Home Brewer
Recipes formulated from brewery data

Reviews from those that have bought Real Ales for the Home Brewer and / or brewed from it.
I bought this book by mistake really. I was looking for another one and couldn't
find it, now I'm glad I did! The author gives very clear and simple to follow instructions
for both full mash and malt extract home brewers in each recipe. There is a brief
but informative section at the front of the book describing different yeasts, equipment,
malt extracts and hop varieties. As someone who has brewed my own for years, I almost
skipped those parts but often now find myself referring back to them for tips as
they are very useful. The amount of beers is extensive, there are some very well
known ones but the best are the beers you may not have heard of, or seen around for
many years. The only disappointment I had was that Ind Coope Burton Ale was not in
the book! All in all, I heartily recommend this book for the experienced and newbie
brewer alike. Get mashing!

Don't expect a detailed approach on how to brew. Whilst the basic procedure is outlined,
this is more of a recipe book. You may not have heard of many of the beers included
but don't let that put you off -

I mentioned in my last post that the recipe for Broadsword was from a book by Marc
Ollosson, the recipe had been passed on to me by a friend, I decided to order the
book online and it arrived this week, I'm impressed with the information in the book
and the range of recipes. I like formulating my own recipes but there are quite a
few here that I want to brew or draw inspiration from. I'd recommend this to any
home brewer.

About the AWARD winning Styrian Stunner recipe
Marc Ollosson designed this recipe in the book Real Ales for the Home Brewer. So
far it has proved to be a big hit, as well as won first place in this years BBF for
Ordinary Bitter, and has won first place in the east region of this years NHC. Screw
the awards though, its an easy recipe that really tastes great.
